Helping Babies Survive (HBS)
HBS is a suite of evidence-based educational training programs developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics to reduce neonatal mortality in resource-limited environments. The HBS initiative consists of three training modules: Helping Babies Breathe (HBB), Essential Care for Every Baby (ECEB) and Essential Care for Small Babies (ECSB). Together, the HBS programs address the three most common causes of preventable neonatal deaths, equipping health workers with the skills necessary to resuscitate and provide essential care to all babies.
Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) Implementation Guide
This KMC Implementation Guide provides pertinent guidelines for national-level policymakers and managers of maternal and newborn health programs. The ultimate aim is to introduce, expand and strengthen KMC practices to improve survival of low birth weight and preterm babies.
Child Health Resources
This website aims to centralize resources, provide examples of best practices and give access to tools regarding integrated community case management of childhood illness, or iCCM. The website has been developed and is currently managed by the USAID grantee Maternal and Child Survival Program (USAID/MCSP).
Professional Association Strengthening
Professional Association Strengthening (PAS) Manual
The Manual was completed and launched in May 2016. The development of the nine-module manual was led by Survive & Thrive partners, including ACNM, ACOG and ICM, with contributions from Sigma Theta Tau International. The modules are designed to assist professional associations develop into highly effective organizations, as well as fill a gap in materials useful to professional associations and facilitators. The series of modules contain materials for strengthening the infrastructure of a professional association, enhancing its value to members, and increasing its impact within the health system and society.
Improving Care of Mothers and Babies: A Guide for Improvement Teams
This Guide was completed and launched in December 2016, developed through the collaborative efforts of the Survive & Thrive partners. The Guide is intended for healthcare providers in limited-resource settings who want to learn and apply special methods to improve the care of mothers and babies, and was designed to be highly compatible with the Helping Babies Survive and Helping Mothers Survive training programs. The goal of the QI Guide is to serve as a valuable resource in supporting efforts to advance the provision of high-quality health care and improve maternal and newborn survival worldwide.
